Lab 7: Reactions Lab

Lab 7: Reactions Lab
Briefly describe the purpose of the lab and post a photo of your favorite reaction. Describe your favorite reaction. Include an image of page 26 OR type the reactions and classifications.

Purpose
The purpose of this lab was to allow students to understand and differentiate between the five types of reactions that they have been taught. To do so, students were asked to conduct, observe, and analyze eight different chemical reactions. Students had to identify the type of reaction and identify patterns that they saw in the process of conversion.

Favorite Reaction
My favorite reaction was Reaction #5, which involved the student placing a piece of zinc into a copper (II) chloride solution and observing the resulting reaction. We placed the pieces of zinc into the test tube and watched as the grayish-metallic piece of zinc began to change into a jet-black color, tinged with hints of red. Originally we had thought that the solution had changed color along with the zinc; however, while we were lifting up the tube to inspect it, we realized that the solution had remained clear and that only the zinc had changed color.
